The Honorary Officer Association was initiated in 1986 and formally named in 1990 with the mission to provide professional voluntary support to the North West Parks & Tourism Board through the management and education of tourists and the active conservation of biodiversity in the North West Parks.
HO DUTIES

VISITOR MANAGEMENT
Visitor Management is performed in three of the North West Parks: Pilanesberg, Borakalalo and Kgaswane Mountain Reserve. During Visitor Management, HOs patrol the reserve, monitor specific game, resolve any problems and assist visitors with general queries and directions.

VERY IMPORTANT SPECIES MONITORING (VIS)
HO’s perform VIS duties to aid and assist NWP & TB in monitoring specific species such as rhino, wild dogs, brown hyena and sable that are under threat or ecological pressure.

COUNTER POACHING UNIT (CPU)
Counter Poaching Unit (CPU) section of the HO Association provides additional manpower to the NWP & TB to assist their initiative to counter poaching in the North West Parks. To become a member of the CPU requires specialist firearms and bush knowledge training.
